Wirehaired Pointing Griffon
Versatile Hunters and Devoted Companions
Upland game or waterfowl--whatever you hunt, a WPGCA griffon will help you do it better. Bred for stable temperament as well as hunting desire, our griffons are eager hunters and loving companions for the family. Whether tracking a pheasant or chasing a Frisbee, a griffon does it with enthusiasm for you.
Established in 1951, the Wirehaired Pointing Griffon Club of America is the original wirehaired pointing griffon breed organization in America. Our unique breeding program and careful progeny testing program are the keys to consistently producing top quality versatile gun dogs. Developing each dog’s potential is our goal. WPGCA membership gives each owner access to expertise and assistance to become a better handler and to bring out the best as a hunting team.
|
Do you want a truly versatile hunting dog?
-
A rock-steady pointer for ruffed grouse, woodcock, pheasants, quail, sharptailed grouse or chukars;
-
A water-loving retriever that fetchs with drive and determination;
-
A cooperative, hard-working dog that hunts with you as team;
-
An easy-to train dog whose goal in life is just to please you;
-
A patient, non-aggressive, loving companion that plays with the kids.
Then what you really need is a Wirehaired Pointing Griffon Club of America bred griffon. With the WPGCA's carefully controlled breeding program, you'll not only get the genetics of a well-bred, versatile hunting dog, but you'll join a strong organization of griffon lovers who are dedicated to helping you get the most out of your versatile hunting dog.
Among versatile hunting dog organizations, the WPGCA is unique:
Breeding decisions are in the hands of the club's breeding committee rather than relying on individual dog owners to make decisions about which dogs are of breeding quality and which stud dogs should be bred with which females.
Each puppy resulting from a club-approved breeding is evaluated in a progeny testing program; the data from these tests is used to determine future breeding decisions.Test results are published in the Gun Dog Supreme for everyone to see.
Judge Training
We train judges to evaluate versatile gun dogs. Through its Education and Research Foundation, the WPGCA holds an annual seminar on judging related topics based on a current need. All prospective judges must meet strict standards to become eligible.
Regional chapters of the WPGCA hold exposure/training days where club members help each other prepare their pups to become true versatile gun dogs. In addition to these occasional events, the network of club members is always there to help owners to develop their dogs and to deal with training questions.
Within our site, you'll find complete information on each regional chapter, answers to common questions about the breed and our organization, a detailed rationale for our breeding program, and a variety of resources for enjoying life with a Wirehaired Pointing Griffon. Of course there’s a gallery chock full of griffon photos. So whether you just want to peruse some pictures, find out about upcoming club events, or carefully research the decision on your next hunting dog, we hope that you’ll find what you’re looking for here. Also, don't overlook our companion site for the Education and Research Foundation.
